Criminal cases and investigations

Trial and appeal preparation in Saudi Arabia

For trial, organise the accusation, disputed facts and evidence. For appeal, identify the judgment, reasons, notification and specific alleged errors. The two stages require different work; a general disagreement with the case should be converted into precise issues for the current stage.

State the jurisdiction, any urgent date and the outcome you need. Scope and fee are confirmed before paid work begins.

How is an ordinary criminal appeal lodged?

Articles 194–195 provide a 30-day period for appeal or review of a first-instance criminal judgment and a memorandum lodged with the issuing court. Identify the judgment, grounds and relief sought and preserve filing proof. Check the recorded judgment-delivery and notification events to calculate the start; do not count only from an informal message. Mandatory review of certain judgments and cassation are distinct routes. For trial, organise the accusation, disputed facts and evidence. For appeal, identify the judgment, reasons, notification and specific alleged errors. The two stages require different work; a general disagreement with the case should be converted into precise issues for the current stage.

Legal answer and supporting sources

Does not collecting the written criminal judgment stop the appeal clock?

Article 193 requires a collection appointment no later than ten days after judgment, recorded with the parties’ signatures. If a party does not collect the copy, its recorded deposit in the case file on that date starts the objection period. A prisoner or detainee receives the copy at the place of custody and must be enabled to present an objection within the prescribed period. Obtain the official delivery or deposit record.

Legal context in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia: Criminal Procedure Law and its implementing regulations govern procedural safeguards; the alleged offence requires its own substantive legal basis. Identify the investigation stage, defence access and admissibility questions without assuming that a complaint proves guilt. Is the task preparing for trial or challenging an issued judgment?

Legal Case Study

From a Complex Financial Accusation to a Final Acquittal

This matter concerns a financial accusation made against a client because funds were transferred to his personal account while he worked for a company. CounselO conducted a comprehensive legal and accounting review of the file and established that the accounting report alone was insufficient to prove liability and that relevant documents, authorizations, and releases had not been considered. Following an integrated defense strategy, the client was acquitted; the judgment was then affirmed on appeal and became final after affirmation by the Supreme Court.
